Our mission

Our story

The Mongolian Society of Economic Geologists (MonSEG) is a society that organizes the industry's most comprehensive conference, which has been held annually since 2009. The event brings together researchers, industry experts, and investors from the geology and mineral resources sector.

In 2008, Mongolia lacked regular conferences or forums dedicated to geology and exploration; existing events were sporadic and limited to specific topics (such as Discover Mongolia). Furthermore, theoretical, practical, and academic conferences were rare.

On March 7, 2008, during a theoretical and practical conference titled "Exploration of Mineral Deposits and Issues of Resource Classification" held at the School of Geology and Petroleum Engineering of MUST, the late geologist M. Ochirbat, a board member of MAEG, first initiated the idea to hold this conference annually (Khayguulchin/Explorer Magazine, Issue 48).

On December 19, 2008, during a joint meeting of the board members of MonSEG and the Mongolian Geological Society (MGS), the late geologist Ch. Enkh-Amgalan proposed holding an annual conference titled "Mongolia Mineral Exploration Roundup" (or "Mongolian Geology and Exploration"). He presented a paper outlining the organizer, schedule, execution strategy, and overall significance of the event. The proposal received full support, leading to the establishment of the initial organizing committee representing government agencies, professional associations, the private sector, and universities. This founding committee comprised nine members, and the inaugural "Mongolia Geology and Exploration 2009" forum successfully took place on March 20–21, 2009.
